Discover why Gabon is Africa’s hidden gem. Explore pristine rainforests, gorilla trekking, untouched beaches, and luxury eco-safaris with Mandrill African Safaris.
When most travelers think about African safaris, countries like Kenya, Tanzania, or South Africa often come to mind. But for those seeking something truly unique, untouched, and exclusive, Gabon is quickly emerging as one of Africa’s best-kept secrets.
Nestled along the west coast of Central Africa, Gabon offers a rare blend of dense equatorial rainforests, pristine Atlantic beaches, and extraordinary wildlife encounters—all with very few crowds. For adventurous travelers and luxury seekers alike, Gabon promises an authentic and unforgettable African experience.
Here’s why Gabon should be your next African destination with Mandrill African Safaris.
Gabon is one of the most forested countries in Africa, with nearly 90% of its land covered in lush tropical rainforest. This makes it a paradise for nature lovers and eco-tourists.
Unlike more commercial safari destinations, Gabon’s landscapes remain largely untouched. You won’t find overcrowded parks or long queues of safari vehicles. Instead, you’ll experience raw, unspoiled wilderness where nature thrives undisturbed.
From dense jungles to winding rivers and coastal lagoons, Gabon offers diverse ecosystems that feel like stepping into a real-life nature documentary.

One of Gabon’s most remarkable features is its population of forest elephants. These smaller, more elusive cousins of the savannah elephant roam freely through the country’s rainforests.
Gabon is believed to host a significant portion of the world’s remaining forest elephants, making it a critical conservation hotspot. Seeing these majestic creatures in their natural habitat is a rare and humbling experience.
Even more unique, in some areas, elephants can be spotted wandering along the beach—a surreal sight you won’t easily find anywhere else in Africa.
While Uganda and Rwanda are famous for gorilla trekking, Gabon offers a completely different and more exclusive experience.
Gabon is home to western lowland gorillas, which live in dense rainforest environments. Trekking here is more adventurous, often involving deeper जंगल exploration and fewer tourists.
This means you get a more intimate and personal wildlife encounter, away from the crowds. With Mandrill African Safaris, you’ll enjoy expertly guided treks that prioritize both safety and conservation.
Loango National Park is arguably Gabon’s crown jewel and one of Africa’s most unique safari destinations.
Often referred to as “Africa’s Last Eden,” this park offers an extraordinary combination of ecosystems—rainforest, savannah, wetlands, and coastline—all in one place.
Here, you can witness:
This rare mix of wildlife and landscapes creates a safari experience unlike anywhere else on the continent.
Gabon’s coastline stretches over 800 kilometers along the Atlantic Ocean, offering some of the most pristine and untouched beaches in Africa.
These beaches are not crowded with tourists or resorts. Instead, they remain wild and peaceful, often visited only by wildlife.
Between July and September, Gabon becomes one of the best places in the world to witness humpback whales migrating along the coast. Sea turtles also come ashore to nest, providing incredible opportunities for marine wildlife viewing.
If you value privacy and exclusivity, Gabon is the perfect destination.
Unlike popular safari hotspots, Gabon receives relatively few visitors each year. This means you can explore national parks without the usual crowds, making your experience more personal and immersive.
Luxury eco-lodges in Gabon are designed to blend seamlessly with nature while offering high-end comfort. This combination of exclusivity and sustainability is ideal for modern travelers seeking meaningful travel experiences.

I am very interested in visiting Gabon. My only concern is my own mobility. If we don’t do much walking, I’m perfectly able to keep up by using a cane. If there is a lot of walking involved, I have a mobility scooter, but I don’t know whether the terrain will be difficult to navigate. Let me know. Thank you for your time.
