As a tourism student passionate about travel, culture, and wildlife, getting an internship opportunity at Mandrill African Safaris was the best thing that ever happened to me. Based in Uganda, Mandrill African Safaris is one of the leading and most trusted tour companies offering unforgettable safaris across Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
From the moment I received the confirmation letter, I knew this would be more than just an internship — it would be a journey of growth, adventure, and discovery.
Mandrill African Safaris is a registered and licensed tour and travel company in Uganda that provides tailor-made experiences for both local and international travelers. The company specializes in:
Gorilla and chimpanzee tracking safaris
Wildlife and cultural tours
Adventure travel
Airport transfers and hotel bookings
Car hire and self-drive services
Visa assistance and flight bookings
With a mission to deliver affordable, authentic, and sustainable African safaris, Mandrill African Safaris stands out for its professionalism, personalized service, and deep knowledge of East Africa’s tourism treasures.
When I joined Mandrill African Safaris as an intern in the Sales and Reservations Department, my main goal was to gain hands-on experience in tourism operations, customer care, and marketing.
My supervisors welcomed me warmly and introduced me to the entire team. The company environment was professional yet friendly — everyone worked like a family with a shared goal: to give travelers the best African safari experience possible.
During my internship, I was involved in several exciting activities that helped me grow both professionally and personally. Some of my key responsibilities included:
I helped respond to emails and WhatsApp messages from clients looking for safaris in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania. This improved my communication skills and taught me how to handle different client personalities with patience and professionalism.
I assisted in creating detailed itineraries for gorilla trekking, wildlife safaris, and cultural experiences. This task strengthened my research and writing abilities, especially when customizing trips to fit clients’ preferences and budgets.
One of my favorite parts of the internship was learning how to create SEO-friendly content for the company’s website and social media pages. I learned how important keywords, blog writing, and regular posting are for improving a company’s Google ranking and online visibility.
I occasionally worked at the front desk, welcoming clients, answering phone calls, and maintaining records. This improved my organizational skills and taught me the importance of customer satisfaction in the tourism industry.
Mandrill African Safaris gave me the opportunity to join some safari trips within Uganda. I experienced the excitement of Queen Elizabeth National Park, the breathtaking beauty of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and the rich cultural heritage of local communities.
Every day at Mandrill African Safaris came with new lessons and unforgettable experiences. Some of my most memorable moments include:
Meeting travelers from different parts of the world and hearing their safari stories.
Watching mountain gorillas in Bwindi — a moment that reminded me why tourism is such a powerful tool for conservation.
Visiting Murchison Falls National Park and witnessing the majestic falls and abundant wildlife.
Participating in company events and marketing campaigns, where I learned teamwork, leadership, and brand promotion.
My time at Mandrill African Safaris taught me that tourism is not just about travel; it’s about connecting people, nature, and cultures. Some of the key lessons I gained include:
Punctuality, honesty, teamwork, and respect are crucial in tourism operations.
Understanding client needs, maintaining clear communication, and ensuring satisfaction are the foundation of successful business relationships.
Through online marketing training, I learned how digital presence helps travel companies attract more clients and rank higher on Google search engines.
I gained a deeper understanding of Uganda’s top tourist destinations — from Lake Mburo to Kibale Forest, Rwenzori Mountains, and Jinja, the adventure capital of East Africa.
Interning with Mandrill African Safaris changed how I view tourism. I no longer see it as just an academic course but as a life-changing career with endless opportunities to promote Uganda’s beauty to the world.
The internship gave me confidence, field experience, and a professional network. I learned how to design packages, manage clients, and use digital tools to promote safaris. Today, I feel ready to take on the world of travel with passion and excellence.
Throughout my internship, I received mentorship from experienced staff and the company’s management. Their guidance motivated me to improve daily.
As one of my mentors once told me,
“In tourism, every client is a guest, and every experience you create becomes part of their lifetime memory.”
This statement inspired me to always give my best in every task I do.
If you are a student pursuing tourism and hospitality, I highly recommend Mandrill African Safaris for your internship. The company provides practical experience, mentorship, and exposure to real-world tourism operations.
For travelers, Mandrill African Safaris is your trusted partner for authentic, affordable, and safe adventures across East Africa. Whether you want to track gorillas in Uganda, climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, or explore Kenya’s Maasai Mara — they will make your dream safari come true.
My internship journey at Mandrill African Safaris was not just about gaining work experience; it was about discovering my potential and building my future in tourism.
